The old town, enclosed by historic walls and entered through the Puerta de las Tablas, consista of a variety of interesting sights, most significant of which is the Archaeological Museum. The museum contains artefacts from prehistoric sites on the Balearic Islands, dating as far back as the Punic period between the 5th and 7th centuries BC. Also in the old town you will find the cathedral with its 10th-century Gothic tower and 18th-century Baroque nave with is also worth visiting . Also visit Formentera, the tiny island of Formentera that covers 35 square miles (90 sq km) and is home to just over 5,000 people. Only be reached by ferry from Ibiza town, its is of exceptional beauty . The island is a popular day trip from Ibiza, and is relatively unspoilt by tourism development; accommodation options are very limited. The main attraction of this flat piece of land are some pretty villages and marvellous beaches flanked by palms and pines, many frequented by nudists. La Salinas is an other option that you have which is one of Ibiza’s famous landmarks that are the salt flats, La Salinas, close to the airport on the southern-most tip of the island. The saltpans have been in use for more than 2,000 years, since the earliest colonists, the Carthaginians, traded in the ‘white gold’ left in the pans when water evaporates in the hot summer months. The sparkling salt lakes provide one of the world’s most beautiful sunset photograph opportunities.
Eating out
The West End, which is crammed with lots of small bars, fast food restaurants and pavement cafes, in San Antonio Bay, is “home” to the best restaurants. Some restaurants offer good local Spanish fare and excellent locally-caught seafood but that doesn’t mean that you cannot find every kind of international cuisine available. Chinese, Indian and Italian food, hamburgers and chips and the staple full English breakfasts and Sunday roasts are available in various restaurants in San Antonio but the local food is undoubtedly a must!
Nightlife
Synonymous with clubbing and the nightclubs in and around San Antonio attracting the best DJs from around the world such as Tim Westwood, Fat Boy Slim and Paul Van Dyke, Ibiza is welcoming you to an endless party holiday. A great place to start off the evening is in one of the bars along the Sunset Strip such as Mambo, Savannah and Café del Mar where people gather every night to watch the sun go down. The clubs in San An include Eden and Es Paradis, famous for its water party are definitely worth visiting . Amnesia and Privilege are both located on the long straight road to the Ibiza Town, where Space, Pacha and El Divino are all located and are offering great fun to those of you who will visit them.
Shopping
You will find a wide range of shops in and around San Antonio catering for travellers, from traditional shops to designer boutiques. Good buys include the local porcelain and leather goods. The local supermarkets are good and stock all the well-known brands and there you will find everything you need. Ibiza Town, a shopping paradise is the best place to find the trendiest fashion accessories.
Beaches
Find five small beaches within short walking distance and in fact a favourite way to start the day, is a stroll along the shoreline path connecting the beaches that all have bars open till late. There is a variety of watersports available including Parasailing , Jetski, Bananaboats that will give you unforgettable memories.Many of the island's most beautiful beaches that are really worth visiting are also on this side of the Island, Cala Bassa, Cala Conta & Cala Tarida are just a short drive, bus or ferry ride away. There's also a good bus service into San Antonio - including the Disco bus to the big clubs. |
